The Mahwah Police Department is broken down into Four key elements:
Administration
Patrol Division
Investigative Division
Support Services
The Administrative Division is comprised of the Chiefs Office, and the two Division Commanders. They are responsible for core administrative functions within the Police Department, which include the responsibility to monitor the performance of the Department and develop methods to measure and improve community satisfaction. The responsibility of Internal Affairs investigations is handled by the Internal Affairs Officers who report directly to the Chief of Police.
The Mahwah Police Department works to improve the quality of police services. This is accomplished by fairly and impartially investigating all complaints of employee misconduct according to specific Attorney General Guidelines. The Patrol Division is the largest Division within the Department and the most visible. The Investigative Division is responsible for conducting follow up investigations for crimes committed against persons and property, illegal narcotic activities, as well as other investigative operations. Support Services consists of the Records Administration and the Communications Bureau, which currently fall under the Patrol Division.
